Happy New Year!

Dear Monkey Class Families,

Happy New Year! I hope this year brings you all good health and happiness. It was wonderful to see all the children back in the Monkey Class this past Monday, and it warmed my heart to watch them seamlessly transition back into their school routines, now a little taller and wiser. Thank you to the parents who have shared their holiday photos with me; it’s such a joy to see those special moments! If you’d like to contribute, please upload your holiday photos to the class albums:

Who We Are Unit of Inquiry

As we embark on Term 2, our focus for the next few week will revolve around our year-long unit, "Who We Are." In the coming weeks, we will explore each other's unique interests, building a sense of community as we collaborate to shape our classroom space. Before the break, we gathered the children’s ideas for our classroom, and it was delightful to discover their enthusiasm for Disney, especially Frozen, with dreams of creating an Elsa castle and play area. Their love for land vehicles and fascination with animals and dinosaurs also stood out.

Exciting projects await us as we work to bring their creative visions to life. Keep an eye on our Google photo albums in the coming weeks to see the transformation of our classroom environment unfold.

Exploring Winter Through Sensory Activities

This week, we had fun exploring the concept of winter. Despite the absence of snow in Hong Kong, the children shared their knowledge and experiences with enthusiasm. Some children had firsthand encounters with snow from their travels, while others gathered insights from books and movies.

Additionally, we began exploring other seasons when some children expressed their dislike for cold weather. Below are some images that capture how the children worked together to make playdough earlier in the week for our winter exploration. These activities not only enriched the children's understanding of winter but also sparked curiosity about the changing seasons.

Literacy and Numeracy

In addition to our creative projects, we will continue our focus on literacy and numeracy goals. This week, we’ve already started exploring number recognition through engaging small group activities. We also began creating family portraits, with some children choosing to focus on those living in their homes, while others took on the delightful challenge of including extended family members and pets.
