And That's a Wrap for Term 2
Dear Monkey Class Families,
Can you believe Term 2 has already flown by? It feels like just yesterday we were embarking on our "How the World Works" journey! This week, we celebrated all the learning and discoveries we made, reflecting on our favourite moments.
Our circle time "share-a-thon" was a whirlwind of excitement, with everyone eagerly recounting their favourite experiments and inquires. We heard tales of construction projects, fizzy colour explosions (our mini-volcanoes were a hit!), and fascinating tool explorations. To solidify these memories, we engaged in a collaborative project, creating reflection posters in small groups. These mini-reporters shared photos and stories, and even came up with titles for their investigations.
Last week, we took a unique approach by placing the reins in the children's hands. I asked, "What do you want to explore next?" Their responses were wonderfully diverse and enthusiastic!
AM Class: The resounding request was for a "Kitchen comeback!" Easter eggs because Easter is coming and they expressed some musical instruments and exploration.
PM Class: Okay, they had a lot of ideas. They wanted monkeys (a million of them!), all the transport toys (cars, ramps, planes, Thomas!), animal mania (soft and hard!), character central (Elsa, Spiderman, Paw Patrol, Mickey, Minnie!), number blocks and music. We've tried to juggle a few of those requests, because, well, we need space! The excitement about all the different characters led us to create a dress-up space, which is basically a daily costume party. We'll dive deeper into their character love in Term 3 during our "How We Express Ourselves" unit.
To truly capture the children's enthusiasm and foster a sense of ownership, we actively incorporated their ideas into our classroom design. It was heartwarming to see how each class embraced the activities chosen by the other, and how thrilled they were with the new classroom setup. Below are some photos showcasing their explorations.
Speaking of feelings, we've been tackling those big emotions head-on this week. We're seeing a few more of them pop up, so we've been reading stories and chatting about how to handle them. All feelings are welcome, but we're learning how to manage them like little pros. We've also been talking kindness, how hands are for hugs and high-fives, and the importance of taking a breather.
Yoga's been a a fan favourite this year. It helps with their wiggles, spatial awareness, and those tricky transitions. I've added a few yoga songs to our Spotify playlist, and you should totally try it at home!
March Birthdays!
Last week we celebrated our Monkey class friends who have birthdays in March, please click on the link below to get a sneak peak of the celebration. (Please note that this month's video is from the AM class only.)
Term 3 - Photo Sharing
To capture the magic of their out-of-school adventures, I've created a Term 3 photo album. Please feel free to share pictures of your child engaging in activities out side of school. We'll dedicate time for them to share their stories during circle time. Please involve your child in the photo selection process.
Google Albums & Spotify Playlist
As always we've captured moments from our time at school, I encourage you to take a moment to look through our school photos with your child; it's a lovely way to chat about their weekly adventures.
Wishing you all a rejuvenating Spring Holiday! I look forward to welcoming the children back to school on the 22nd of April and to the adventures Term 3 will bring.
